Description

MUSH Vaisto® ADULT BLACK Pork-Chicken-Lamb ALL BREEDS FORMULA is a nutritionally complete raw food suitable for all adult dogs, particularly working or agility dogs in need of more energy dense meals.

Pork is very digestible and has a favourable amino acid profile. Energetically, it’s a cooling meat (according to Traditional Chinese Medicine) while pork fat has a balanced ratio of saturated and monounsaturated fats. It’s high in linoleic acid and a great source of medium chain fatty acids. Pork liver, lung and heart are lean proteins that provide many vitamins and minerals.

Chicken is rich in the trace mineral selenium, which supports thyroid health and the immune system. It also contains the cancer-protective B vitamin niacin that aids in controlling glucose levels in the body as well as converting protein, fat, and carbohydrates into usable energy. Vitamin B6 supports energy metabolism and cardiovascular health. Chicken is also a natural source of bio-available calcium, Glucosamine, and Chondroitin.

This menu contains the following chicken organ meats: chicken gizzards, heart and liver, which are abundant in essential minerals and vitamins. Collectively they are rich sources of glucosamine, zinc, iron. B vitamins and essential fatty acids, keeping your dog’s coat silky smooth for cuddle time! Also packed with phosphorus, which helps build and strengthen your dog’s skeletal system.

Lamb is a fine source of protein and a healthy red meat alternative for dogs that may have allergies or intolerances to other traditional red meats. It is rich in Zinc, a mineral that affects many fundamental processes, including that of immune functioning.

This menu contains the following lamb organ meats: lamb lung & liver, both nutrient-rich and a good source of vitamin A – beneficial for eye health and for reducing diseases that cause inflammation such as arthritis. Rich also in folic acid, iron, chromium, copper, and zinc thereby helping stabilise your dog’s metabolic rate and blood sugar levels.

Bones & Cartilage: Ground pork, chicken and lamb bones are used to provide minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, while cartilage from these three sources is added to this menu as a great source of glucosamine.

Vegetables provide the raw menus with important fiber, minerals, and vitamins. MUSH uses a mix of leafy greens like spinach, broccoli and lettuce which have a low glycemic index.

Oils: Sunflower oil is rich in omega-6, an essential fatty acid that must be gotten through food (your dog’s body cannot make it). Omega-6’s help stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain the reproductive system, and promote a healthy immune system.

Eggs: are one of the most complete foods and hence a natural source of many nutrients including high quality protein, vitamins and minerals. They are naturally rich in vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B12, vitamin D, selenium and iodine. They also contain vitamin A and a number of other B vitamins including folate, biotin, pantothenic acid and choline, and other essential minerals and trace elements, including phosphorus.

All MUSH Vaisto® menus are complete and balanced. They are made of a delicious mix of whole cuts of Finnish meat, organs and bone from three different animal sources, and offer selected vegetables and oils to give your pets optimal nourishment. It is only the composition that varies between each menu: Meat, bones and organs 95%; Vegetables 5%

The products in the Vaisto® ADULT ALL BREEDS FORMULA range are suitable for adult dogs that are already familiar with raw feeding and have been on it for at least two to four weeks. The benefits of a raw food diet for dogs and cats

The Benefits of a Raw Food Diet

  • Healthy skin and coat – Many pets are allergic to grains, which can lead to pathologic skin conditions. A raw natural diet provides allergy relief, reduction and/or eradication.
  • Cleaner, whiter and stronger teeth – Many dry foods leave a starchy coating on the teeth, which promotes plaque. Feeding a raw diet maintains healthier teeth and gums as well as fresher breath.
  • Stools- Harder, smaller, less smelly stools that are easier to scoop up from the little box or pick up in the garden. Less smelly farts.
  • Decreased litter box odor – Many pet foods include protein that is indigestible for cats (and dogs), which leads to an undesirable odor at the litter box.
  • Natural weight control – Cats and dogs are healthiest on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet.
  • A stronger immune system, more energy and stamina – Pet’s digestive systems are designed to ingest raw meat and are healthiest eating what Nature intended.

Some Changes to Expect:

  • After a full transition to a raw diet, pets will typically drink less water. In the wild they get most of their water from their prey. A raw meat diet naturally contains more moisture than dry or canned food, so your cat or dog may be less thirsty, yet be getting plenty of water.
  • There will likely be a change in the size, odour, and color of the pet’s faeces. They will stink less! They may also be somewhat harder and dryer and be colored shades of dark and light brown. Much of the crude protein and crude fiber in most commercial dry and canned pet foods is not digestible and hence contributes to a higher stool volume. Along with the assurance of knowing that all the food your beloved pooch or feline is ingesting, is actually being digested, the less stinky poops are certainly a nice bonus!
  • Overweight Cats and Dogs tend to lose weight. However, weight loss must be closely monitored. Rapid weight loss can lead to serious health problems. Make sure you transition your pet to a raw diet gradually and seek professional advice, especially when transitioning an animal with chronic health issues.
  • Lethargic Pets begin feeling more energised, start to play more and may even exhibit hunting behaviour. Dogs and cats are healthiest when fed a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. When they aren’t experiencing the metabolic highs and lows associated with high carbohydrate intake from grains, typically found in kibble, they will use protein as their energy source, just as they were designed by nature to do. This tends to provide more sustained energy throughout the day and reduces the need to “graze”.
  • Allergies tend to clear up, which may be a result of less exposure to potential food allergens. Many pets have allergies to grains that can range from very mild to severe. These allergies can manifest on the skin, can affect digestion, and also contribute to runny eyes & nose and itchy ears or paws. The reduction in allergic symptoms may be a result of not only a reduced exposure to allergens from a higher food quality, but also from a stronger immune system. The more nutritious the food, the stronger the immune system will be.
  • Fur becomes incredibly soft and shedding is reduced. This is typically one of the initial benefits observed after changing to a raw diet and is a direct result of better nutrition. The humans in the household also stand to gain a lot as well, when switching their pets to raw, as they are less likely to suffer allergic reactions due to the reduction of dander.

CAN PETS EAT RAW PORK?

ABSOLUTELY! Pork is a wonderful meat for pets. Most dogs and cats love pork and do very well with it. For many it is essentially a “novel” protein and an excellent source of taurine, pork is a healthy addition to any food rotation for cats, too.
The most maligned meat, many of the myths and misconceptions surrounding the feeding of raw pork are simply outright misinformation; others are outdated health concerns. Let’s address those myths and fears. They are:

  • Pork is too fatty. Actually, pork is a lean meat. On a dry matter basis, pork trimmed to one-quarter inch fat is about 79% protein and 18% fat (see table, below). This compares to farmed rabbit, which is 74% protein, 20% fat; lamb, with 76% protein and 20% fat; and duck, at 70% protein and 23% fat. Chicken with skin is about 55% protein, 44% fat, which is similar to beef, with 50% protein and 45% fat. Clearly pork is not a particularly fatty option within our commercially available meats. Another thing going for pork is the sheer number of vitamins and minerals it has. Pork comes loaded with niacin, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and vitamin D.
  • Pork is high in saturated fats. This is an outdated concern: apart from having a lower fat content than most believe, according to the USDA, the saturated fat content of pork trimmed to one-quarter inch of fat is just 21%. That is the LOWEST option for saturated fat content of any commercially available meat except skinless chicken breast! What IS different about pork is the lower content of polyunsaturated fats. Therefore, pork should be included in the diet rotation (not be the sole protein in the diet).
  • Pigs don’t sweat and release toxins. This is another odd persuasion that pops up every so often. The liver and kidneys do the primary job of removing toxins from the body in mammals, not their sweat glands.
  • My pet will get trichinosis. This is the most common reason people are afraid to feed raw pork. Trichinosis is caused by the roundworm parasite, trichinella. It was a widespread problem up to the mid-20th century, but in many parts of the world, aggressive management steps have been very effective, and in human grade commercial meats, trichinella is virtually non-existent.

We, at Hearty Apetite only stock raw pet food products from the most reputable European producers who adhere to the highest health, safety and animal welfare standards in the world.

  • Last but not least, trichinella (and other potential parasites) are killed by freezing the meat for three weeks at (-20C). If you still have concerns, simply check the production date on the product and if it’s gone past the three weeks mark any potential threats would have been destroyed. If you prepare your raw pet food at home, however and you buy raw pork from your local butcher and are worried about the meat’s origin, it may be best to freeze the meat for about 3 weeks, just to ensure that it is safe for your dog to consume raw.

To conclude, pork is an excellent sources of protein and should be welcomed in any healthy meat rotation in a raw diet. With moderate fat, and low in saturated fats compared to other red meats, pork truly is “the other white meat.” So put your fears aside, and let your pets enjoy this nutritious protein in its natural state.
