From: 6.75€ / 13.20 лв.

This irresistible, nutritionally complete, low-carbohydrate recipe is a soothing option for dogs suffering from diabetes mellitus and can help to regulate the glucose supply.

Made with fresh, highly digestible horse muscle meat, this therapeutic menu provides healthy amino acids and omega-6 fatty acids without putting a strain on the pancreas. The proportion of natural raw fiber from vegetables, fruit and herbs is increased, in order to ensure a slower passage of the food through the intestines, which means that the nutrients are constantly released into the bloodstream.

Dietary therapy is a key component to the management of diabetes in dogs as it plays two important roles. The first is to provide specific nutrition to help prevent the progression of the disease. The second is to support a better quality of life by helping to control or limit the clinical signs of diabetes that make our pets feel sick or unwell.

With AliVet’s DIABETIC DIET menus, your best bud can now enjoy a selection of scrumptious, grain-free, high fibre & low carbohydrate suppers – ideal for soothing diabetes.

Description

Diabetic Menus: Are functional meals that regulate the glucose supply (diabetes mellitus) for diabetic dogs

Dogs that have diabetes need insulin throughout their lives. In addition, they should be fed in such a way that the blood sugar level remains stable. Only pure, human food grade muscle meat is used in the DIABETIC DIET menus, while grains are completely avoided. Highly digestible muscle meat provides healthy amino acids and omega-6 fatty acids without putting a strain on the pancreas. The proportion of natural raw fiber from vegetables, fruit and herbs is increased in all DIABETIC DIET menus in order to ensure a slower passage of the food through the intestines, which means that the nutrients are constantly released into the bloodstream. Added to this are the blueberries, which are the focus of research and which are said to play a supporting role against diabetes thanks to their secondary plant substances, above all anthocyanins.

Artichoke leaves, aloe vera and cumin are known to keep blood sugar levels even, especially to prevent so-called “sugar peaks” and have a positive effect on cholesterol levels. Fenugreek is considered to lower blood sugar and is therefore anti-diabetic. Lupine is also said to have an overall lowering effect on blood sugar and also provides valuable amino acids. Sage and thyme are also beneficial as they offer a variety of antioxidants and secondary plant substances. The ginseng it contains is known for its positive effect on diabetes and its ability to lower blood sugar levels.

Diabetes mellitus is a disease that is based on an endocrine disorder. A distinction is made between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. While in type 1 diabetes too little insulin is produced in the pancreas, in type 2 diabetes there is resistance to insulin, so that the mode of action is limited or eliminated. Type 1 diabetes typically occurs in young animals with a genetic disposition and rather slender animals. Type 2 diabetes is the so-called “adult-onset diabetes”, which occurs predominantly in senior dogs and overweight animals. In obese patients, this type may be reversible when weight returns to normal. If there is not enough insulin or if it does not develop its full effect, the uptake of glucose into the cells is prevented, which results in a massive increase in glucose in the blood. In addition to polydipsia (increased drinking) and polyuria (increased urination), reduced performance, polyphagia (increased appetite) and cataracts (as a late consequence clouding of the lens) are classic symptoms of diabetes. Possible causes of diabetes are obesity, genetic predisposition, pancreatitis and glucocorticoid administration. Nowadays, however, obesity is considered to be one of the main reasons for the increased occurrence of the so-called “sugar dogs”.
